There have been conflicting reports on focusing the E-3. Some owners reported problems while others couldn’t find any. A certain amount of bitterness ensued over this. Tony and I who use entirely different lens setups independently stumbled on the solution to the elusive problems.

I had the deep honor at PMA to interview Mr. Watanabe from Olympus Tokyo. It was a very enlightening experience, and now I feel that I know more deeply about the thinking process of Olympus and their view of the 4/3 system. We always have ground rules, and the biggest is Olympus will not make any comments about future products (which is a very understandable rule in my opinion). Also, I had a few Olympus Studio questions, but those will be answered by another interview at another junction later this year.

Since it has been a couple weeks since I released any thoughts on the E-30 I wanted to layout some more thoughts about this camera dealing with Multi Exposure, the new 14-54mm II lens, and Creative filters. Multi Exposure and creative filters are only in version 1.0. So in my opinion for a 1.0 product they are good, but still have a lot of room for improvement.

#1 Tip for increasing the dynamic range in the image with the E-30 / E-3:
Shadow Adjustment Technology is built-in to several of the Olympus E-series cameras.
This technology, when active, expands the range of tonal detail in the image.
Shadow detail becomes apparent while the existing detail in the highlights is maintained.
