The Vale of Kashmir by John Isaac
By tspore at 01/08/2009 - 21:08

Each person needs photographic icons. For my entire life John Isaac has been that person. I have looked up to him, and found inspiration from his work, more than any other photographer.

I have spent that last couple of weeks reading and looking at his latest work, The Vale of Kashmir, and it is by far my favorite book of photographic work that I have ever seen. It captured my imagination, and gives me inspiration. It takes the reader from their world and transports them to another place. In my opinion for a person who desires to be a better photographer, and at times needs inspiration this book brings that and much more.

This book should be part of any photographer’s library. I cannot but whole heartily recommend this book, and urge you to support one of the greatest photographers of our day and his work.

John Isaac is also one of the few handful Olympus Visionary Photographers.

I purchased the book as well. It is really interesting to see just what the E-1 is capable of.
Here is a an interesting review of the book.

Having been myself shooting in Kashmir it was a mandatory purchase. A wonderful book, so far the best on the region.

Thanks for reminding me of John Isaac's work. Fantastic! I will be definitely be using my Xmas bookshop gift voucher to buy the book! Equally impressive to his beautiful images is his highly ethical approach to photojournalism, shunning possible awards in the name of more noteworthy principles. Reminds photojournalists of the need to keep their work within an ethical frame. I hope I would have the common decency to always put human dignity first, but as Isaac points out not all do. He stands tall as a fine example to us all. Thanks again for the reference.

I attended John Isaac's lecture for FotoFusion 2009 in Del Ray Beach Florida yesterday. He talked about the making of this book and projected many images from the book with the wonderful new Leica D-1200 high-res digital projector. His images were stunning and he is an outstanding speaker. I was not surprised by the quality of the images coming out of the E-1 (the entire book was done with the E-1) as I have had one since they were first released. What was interesting is that Mr. Isaac used the ISO 1800 to 2000 range with the ISO boost on the E-1 for many of the interior room shots with minimal window light and had few noise issues that were not easily fixed.

Beautiful work though definitely not very original.

What is the name of that 'Nikon' photographer? Steve Mccmurray (did I spell that correctly?)

Access, travel, sponsorship and just about anyone could come up with these type photographs.

Nice work just nothing original.
